Figment is a sprite-based, somewhat isometric puzzle game where you control a cynical man named Duster, his personality reflected in his dull, washed-out appearance, accompanied by a colourful and optimistic bird named Piper. They explore a universe full of very cerebral puzzles and equally mental "Nightmare" creatures.
Around The Town Of The Human Mind
Figment has a decent storyline, and its puzzles are inventive, using mechanics specific to the game based on sound and other aesthetic cues that stand out. Unfortunately, Figment is occasionally hampered by strange issues that don't match the rest of the game. The fun, rhythmic puzzle solving that defines the game early on eventually becomes repetitive at times, and although the music is the focus, it falls silent during loading times and other places where it really should keep playing or just change.
A Nightmare For Nearly No One
Overall, anyone who likes hand-drawn sprite styles will probably appreciate the rustic, rural North American vibe that Figment manages to give off with its colours and music. Its biggest obstacles are probably the result of programming and development time issues, not active design choices, and so despite its rough edges, Figment is worth a look for story lovers and puzzle solvers alike.
